Canadian Headline News – First snowflakes could fall on Toronto this Thursday

Say it ain’t so.

Wintry weather is coming to Toronto this week and Environment Canada is predicting freezing temperatures plus a chance of flurries starting on Thursday night.

That means it’s time to haul out the winter gear: mittens, woolen hats, scarves, boots and snow shovels. And if you haven’t done so already, it’s time to put on winter tires on your vehicle.

The federal weather agency says the chance of flurries will continue throughout the weekend and end by Sunday night.

It says there is a 40 per cent chance of flurries on Thursday night, when the low is predicted to be minus 8 C.

Canadian dollar touches 77 cents US for first time since February – Weekly News Today

The Canadian dollar continued to climb Thursday as speculation grew that the Bank of Canada is ready to raise its key interest rate sooner rather than later.

The loonie touched 77 cents US for the first time since February during the session before pulling back at the close to an average price of 76.83 cents US, trading 0.26 of a U.S. cent higher.

The increase was also helped by an uptick in oil prices, with the August crude contract adding 19 cents at US$44.93 per barrel.

Comments from Bank of Canada governor Stephen Poloz on Wednesday raised expectations that a rate increase could come as early as next month’s central bank meeting on July 12.

The bank had lowered its rate twice in 2015 to the very low level of 0.5 per cent to help offset the effects of the lower oil prices.

Chief market strategist Colin Cieszynski of CMC Markets Canada says Poloz’s remarks point to the prospective trend that central banks around the world may start moving on rates.

Canadian News – Majority of Americans concerned about Trump ditching Paris climate agreement: survey – National #News in #Canada

Less than one-third of Americans support President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accord, a new poll shows, and just 18 per cent of respondents agree with his claim that pulling out of the international agreement to reduce carbon emissions will help the U.S. economy.

The survey conducted by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research earlier this month found that a slim majority – 52 per cent – worry that withdrawing will actually hurt the economy. Twenty-seven per cent think it won’t have an impact either way.

But digging deeper into the numbers shows a sharp partisan divide on global warming, with Republicans more likely to align themselves with the president’s views.

Seventy-eight per cent of Democrats think withdrawing from the Paris agreement will hurt the national economy. Among Republicans, just 24 per cent think it will hurt, 40 per cent think it will have no impact and 34 per cent think it will help. please read on —>

Dean Brody | Canadian Country Music

Dean Brody (born in Jaffray, British Columbia) is a Canadian country music artist. Signed to Broken Bow Records in 2008, Brody made his debut late that year with the single “Brothers”. This song, a Top 40 country hit in both Canada and the US, is the first single from his debut album, released in 2009 under the production of Matt Rovey. Dean Brody was born in Jaffray, British Columbia, Canada.[2] As a boy, Brody worked at a sawmill, also playing guitar in his spare time. By 2004, he had moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue his musical career. Although he found a songwriting contract, the expiration of his US work permit forced him to move back to Canada. Eventually, he returned to Nashville through the suggestion of producer Keith Stegall, who helped him sign with Broken Bow Records in 2008.[2] Brody released his debut single, “Brothers”, late that year.
